Why we are trekkers.

Species A

Some people trek because they are kampung at heart.

They feel at one with nature, and trekking allows them to revisit their primitive roots. These include relinquishing a parang like an SMU student holding a laptop, cooking sambal kangkong, shitting in the wild, etc

Species B

Some people trek because they want to relive a little bit of army.

Diagnosis of this species is tricky because they will never admit it. They like trudging through the forest, they like whipping out their army jungle survival tools and talking about army-issues like "how-I-slept-in-my-own-self-dug-grave" or "my-army-foot-rot" and so on. Most of all, they love using army terms in their language about as frequently Species A uses the term "frankly speaking".

Species C

Some people trek for the release.

Trekking allows you to live in camp shirts dating back till 1998 and fbts. To wear rubber kampung adidas (which rank No. 1 on Fashion Faux Pas lists) with glory. You can get away with bad hair, no makeup, greasy faces, bad breath, body odour, crumbly eye shit in your lashes and sweat stains along the rims of your shirt collar and under arms. In judgemental and superficial SMU, trekking is like your 20-yr old pet dog who will always accept you, welcome you, and rub its fuzzy face against you even if you're smelly and ugly.

Species D

Some people trek because they get to have an excuse for bad hygeine.

They relish having dirt accumulate on them, not visiting the bathroom for days on end, and wearing the same dingy shirt throughout. Trekking allows these people to wear their dirt and bad breath with pride, and shrug accusations off attributing the lack of personal hygeine to trekking conditions. They can fulfill that childhood dream of never having to brush your teeth. Dirty Debbie anyone?

Species E

We've had to cut it down from a Polo Tee to a round neck.

As a result, you all should be able to get shirts at less than $10 :) Perhaps even less. Price will be confirmed once orders have been collated.

The shirt will be a mixture of Polyester dri-fit and cotton.

I was in random conversation with Luk and Adrian at beach road. And Luk says if we need advice on relationship matters, we can always talk to them (seniors).

SMUX Guys beware of external competitors!

Today at 2226 at CCA room, Joel from SSU accidentally kicked Lynn Chang's laptop charger. She initially screamed at him, but as she first put her eyes on him, all her anger melted away.

She look at him with eyes of adoration and said "Sorry, I thought you are one of them(SMUX guys)."

As he walked away, she continued to gaze at him. It's hard to blame her when Joel is very much a hunk. Tall dark and handsome...

Okay, this's supposed to be a tabloid blog, but pardon me for breaking the rule, and writing an emo post for once..

I'm glad to see the blog alive once more. Most of the juniors won't know me, unless you all scrolled back and read those random posts. Anyway, just want to share with you some history about some of your seniors, and for the seniors, its a great chance to reminisence of all those times.

There were once this bunch of us, who seemed quite misfits in SMUX. There were wuhui who's crazily clumsy, and shiehyuan who's superdly blur. And worst of all, there's 3 guys who probably couldn't even complete their 2.4. (Me, the fat one, weibin who-suffered-almost-every-life-threatening-ailment-you-can-think-of, and jay the lazy-bum-whos-butt-is-perm-stuck-to-the-ground-and-kayak-without-his-paddle-ever-touching-the-water)

For some reason, we all decided to join SMUX, and SMUX Trekking at that. We went for a few waterfall treks, found it quite fun and decided to go for Gunung Yongyap - one of the supposedly easiest G7, without really knowing what kind of shit we were getting ourselves into.

And then the weekly training started. I, for one, really can't run and totally dreaded the weekly runs, but at least I had some consolation: jay is even more chui than me, so I'm always not the last =P And everytime I had thoughts of quiting, images of him saying "can one, just whack lar" kept me going.

But mid-way through the training, there were some talks that he should be removed from the trek for safety reasons. Of course the rest of us weren't too happy about it. No matter what, we all started as a team and we all want to see each other through. And then there were this email thread that started, and some of us pledged to split up his bag and stuffs and carry it for him if he chui'ed halfway. (Haha. anyway, jay don't know of this. If he did, he probably would have just pretended to chui and dump his stuffs to us =P)

Cut the long story short, we all managed to reach the top. It was also the first and the last G7 trek for him. (Haha he didn't die or anything, he just left for studies in australia, and have grown so fat and nua he probably can't even climb Berkelah) If you look at the 2006 Dec posts, I think you can see the photo of us at the top of the mountain with his farewell present.

It was probably one of those experience that kept us really close, and something I'll always remember for life. =)

Admist the usual hustle and bustle of school life, team events and meetings, therein lies some hushed happenings, where people hope to make their wishes come true.

Yes, it's that fateful day of the year again, where people seek their hearts' desire, where the call of the day centres around the question: Would you be my Valentine?

To begin, SMUX provides a conducive environment where people of similar interests and character meet, and get to know each other in depth through activities, particularly those that put people's endurance to the test. It is, therefore, of no wonder, that the cca has spawned a great many pairs of lovebirds, and we cannot forget the power of our shit stirring as well. Fake shit can stir until become real shit leh! =X

A random conversation today with one of our dear smux friends saw him commenting that many are trying to 'revoke their single licenses'. Hmmm. Seems that the hushed activities are not too well kept under wraps, or that we're just too observant. Don't bet the cow on the year 2s though, we're almost saturated with couples. Look to our dear juniors instead. Observations can be pretty interesting!

This Valentine's Day, how many more hearts will be set aflutter? Of course, we do not forget to pay tribute to the few individuals who are hard at work planning an "independent singles" party, to prove to the rest that they should be proud to be a swinging single. Sounds like quite alot of fun! Those invited are very eligible bachelors and bachelorettes who have been matchmaked to many, many potential partners. Low supply of singles = appreciating value for them, mind you :P

As we see the number of eligible bachelors and bachelorettes in SMUX dwindling by the day, one cannot help but wonder: will we see the day where the entire summit campsite is filled with 2 man tents? What about our dear bachs and bachelotettes? Which side would they choose to step on in the end? Single or not, we hope that everyone would find their own happiness in whatever they do :))

gosh. there's like sooooooo much rumours and gossips flying around in trekking that we've gotta stop it all, and clear up all the mess. so here goes a consolidated list of the gossips:

Jay and weibin are still frds despite all the fights you've seen on the shoutbox, the threatened choke slams and the whatsoever. it was rumoured that jay saw weibin and wuhui coming back together from larkin, while he was all alone at citysquare. he ended up so agitated that he lifted weibin on his neck, and slammed him into the rubbish chute. even thou this probably explained why weibin looks so dark (and dirty) now, it is OBVIOUSLY untrue. gosh. its highly improbable that someone who can't even kayak is actually able to choke slam someone who managed to kayak to ubin with the e-brakes on! Anyway, jay is probably too busy with his 30-mins-longer-than-everyone's-else massage session at city square to have even noticed. =P

There were also some rumours about Luk and Zhuming, and even some unpublished scandelous photos. we've heard the stories from both side, and it has been proven to be false. apparently they did tried, but couldnt manage to reach each other's hand, and so they gave up. and it was rumoured that luk was starting to get backaches from trying to give zhuming a kiss. sigh. heaven is juz so unfair.

It seems like the rumours from yongyap about shiehyuan and jay were actually true. We just attended their house-warming dinner yesterdae. pictures are still with jay, and u can be assured that it will be uploaded soon. They are really such a sweet loving couple, even wearing matching clothes yesterday. Watching them take food for each other just sets us in the mood for love totally.

Oh. and among all the year 1s, absolutely NO one has a dinner date for vday yet. so take this chance if there's anyone you particularly like =P Oh, but it seems like quite a few study pairs have already been formed for this vday. hmmms. Expect to see lotsa *hearts* flying around the smux table this coming wed night~ =P

and WeeKee (me) gave a consolidated breakdown of every single girl he is "dating". It seems like smux's definition of dating = seen within arm's length of another party of the opposite sex. Yeps, so here it goes:
If she's wearing a white razorback and a green jacket, thats my buddy. If i like her, i'd be gay. Since not gay, therefore don't like her.
If she's someone different from the one you saw yesterdae, your ogling/stares/weird glances/whatever has scared the previous one away, and you probably will never ever see us within close distance of each other ever again.
